Drainage

The water accumulation in structures that are in natural contact with soil can generate pushes that repel in the stability and durability of the same ones.

The structures that have bigger problems by the presence of water flow are:

  • Retaining walls and reinforced slopes
  • Roadways, routes and tracks
  • Tunnels and foundation structures
  • Sport fields

Some other fluids (liquid or gases) as the leached in landfills, can generate problems not only in the structures, but in to the environment.

The soil drainage concept is quite simple; Place an element within the ground whose emptiness relationship is bigger than the existing in the soil, at this time the fluid will flow to a previous defined exit in project, so the fluid would be evacuated.

The water infiltration in opened areas could cause internal flows which in many occasions generate difficulties in the construction, affecting the stability of grounds.

Some considerations exist that are due to take into account to determine the system of suitable drainage.

  • Type of civil work (retaining wall, landfills slopes)
  • Rain fall (precipitation frequency)
  • Type of surface (permeable or impermeable)
  • Internal networks of flow

Technology offers a new alternative to solve drainage problems. GMG 512 geocomposite can be used instead of the traditional drainage systems. GMG 512 geocomposite allows a remarkable savings in costs.
