Problem:

One of the most important construction companies in Mexico is working to develop a new residential area over the roadway from Acapulco – Acapulco Airport. Exactly in a place called “Barra Vieja”. They required increasing the bearing capacity of the sand to support the department buildings, reason why they required making great excavations, reflecting high work costs.

Solution:

This project was solved by an ACE GG 30-II geogrid installed in a smaller depth than the required one in normal conditions. The ACE GG30-II geogrid gave the resistance to the sand before the efforts of tension due to the overloads of the buildings. Previously to the positioning of the geogrid a 200gr/m2 polyester geotextile was installed simply to avoid the fine particles migration in the layers reinforced with geogrid. With this solution the costs by excavation were lower than if the would have to replaced al the clay and the times of work were reduced.
