Stabilization for expansive clay |
Project:Stabilization for expansive clay Place:Querétaro, Querétaro Problem:Queretaro is a colonial place and it is about 3 hrs from Mexico City. Most of soil in Queretaro is clay. A new residential area was constructed in Queretaro over this kind of soil with expansive characteristics. The clays are up to 6 m depth. It was obligatory to remove of half of the existing layer and to replace it by improved ground. This action generated an enormous cost for the work by the number of cubic meters of excavation and earthwork. Solution:A mechanical soil study was made simultaneously to verify the soil characteristics of the layer identified as clay. An ACE GG-30-II geogrid was chosen to reinforce the soil and to diminish the amount of soil to improve. This system turned out to be the more efficient and at the same time the costs were less than expected diminishing the cubic meters of excavation. The geogrid helps to increase the bearing capacity of the improved ground. Return to Representative Works >>>
