Erosion control system in a natural channel by the using of geocell and geomat

Problem:

The growth of the demand of houses in the city of Cuernavaca, Morelos, has caused the massive houses construction in municipalities near the city, so is the case of the municipality of Emiliano Zapata. In this place, one of the most important construction companies of the country developed a residential area. A natural channel crosses through this residential area. They have to protect the slopes against the erosion caused by the passage of the water throughout its development. At the same time, these slopes needed to be vegetated to offer an agreed pleasant view to the place.

Solution:

It was chosen two systems to handle of erosion control. One was with a polypropylene M1315 geomat, which is a material that has a three-dimensional shape to allow grass vegetation. In the future this geomat will be degrading by the u.v. effects. The other system was an EGA 30 geocell because some slopes demanded a vegetal earth confinement, geocell will offer this superficial stability and it will be permanent. Both systems fulfilled satisfactorily and the vegetated slopes gives a great view to the channel.
