Rehabilitation and protection of a coastal dune |
Project:Rehabilitation a of a coastal dune in a salt company Place:Las Coloradas, Yuc. Problem:In “Las Coloradas, Yucatán, Mexico is working one of the more important salt companies of the country. Its strategic location allows him to obtain salt water of the Caribbean Sea. This salt water as well, is transformed into particle of salt for the human consumption by means of a process of migration through natural lagoons located to a side of the sea. This process takes several months. There was a dune between the Caribbean Sea and the lagoons. This natural sand dune was in charge to maintain the continuous process. This dune disappeared after Wilma hurricane destroyed the dune. The production of salt of that year by that problem was lost. Solution:It was chosen to install 4 km of geotextile-tube to replace the natural dune. The tubes were placed one by one and they were filled with sand of the locality. A marine engineering study was made to determine the necessary dimensions of each tube for the design. At this moment the geotextile-tubes are working perfectly offering at the same time a greater protection and security to the process of the salt production. Return to Representative Works >>>
